Involving students in socially-oriented journalism projects – an example from Adam Mickiewicz University

Field trip to FOJO in Kalmar helped the participants of DESTIN to share their experience in various areas of their educational work. Among others, it was a very convenient occasion to focus attention on exchanging knowledge about methods and techniques of involving students in journalism projects oriented on struggling with global and social problems. As an example of such an exchange, the presentation on Combining journalism education with promotion of physical activity and pro-sport interests in the academic community – experiences of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz can be indicated. Prepared by Jędrzej Skrzypczak and Bartosz Hordecki, the material illustrates “AZS-go” TV chronicle prepared by specialists in TV journalism as well as students from the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at AMU. The programme promotes academic sports values and healthy style of life. As such, it helps to engage future journalists in these issues, encouraging them to become social advocates of physical activity among all generations.

The presentation proposed by colleagues from Poland can be perceived as an example of sharing good practice with other participants of DESTIN. Hopefully, the conference planned for the November field trip in Poznań at AMU will be a platform of presenting and discussing similar examples from all universities participating in the project.
