Updated MSU journalism programs have been reviewed as part of the DESTIN project

On March 11, within the framework of the Erasmus + DESTIN international project “Journalism Education for Democracy in Ukraine: Developing Standards, Integrity and Professionalism”, a review of updated programs within the specialization “Journalism” took place. Students of Mariupol State University will start studying according to European standards in September 2020.

Updated educational and professional programs were presented by teachers of the Department of Social Communications of MSU, project supervisor, Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Mass Communications, Professor Svitlana Bezchotnikova, Associate Professor Olena Melnikova-Kurganova, Head of Public Organization, Senior Lecturer Andrii Kulikov, assistant, editor of TV and radio company “Eurostudio” Natalia Andrieieva and assistant, leading specialist of the training laboratory “Telestudio MSU-Media” Oleksiy Chyshevych. The review took place in Zaporizhia with the participation of media and teachers from the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria and Ukraine.

Training programs for journalists include in-depth study of the basics of the journalistic profession, free choice of disciplines for additional qualifications in the communication cycle, as well as elements of dual education, including training in media production, namely on the basis of PJSC TRC Eurostudio, Ltd.Broadcasting organization “Mariupol Television” and PJSC “Gazeta Priazovsky Rabochyi”.

Together with journalism students, teachers and employers, the experts discussed how to improve the quality of training in the new programmes. At the end of the meeting, the expert committee gave positive feedback and recommendations for improving the structure and content of the updated educational programmes.

The international Erasmus + DESTIN project “Journalism Education for Democracy in Ukraine: developing standards, virtue and professionalism” will enable the faculty of the Mariupol State University’s Department of Social Communications to improve the system of journalism education in the Donetsk region to meet European higher education standards.
