Expanding the possibilities of the Destin project: in Mariupol State University students study the best European practices

At Mariupol State University, within the framework of the MEDIAHUB project, a master class was organized by the director of the European Association for the Training of Journalists Nadia Vissers “EUfactcheck – an all-European project: efficiency, fact-checking, ethics”, which brought together participants from all over Ukraine.

The meeting was held in an online format with the participation of future journalists, young researchers of journalism and scientists from Kiev, Sumy, Ternopil and Mariupol.

Nadia Vissers made a presentation of the project “EUfactcheck – an all-European project: efficiency, fact-checking, ethics”, which has already united 20 journalism schools in Europe. The project is aimed at increasing knowledge about modern fact-checking and information verification by journalists. She talked about how European journalists verify information, how important it is to report based on fact-checking, as well as the unique tools and flowcharts of EUfactcheck.

The EUfactcheck project encourages students from more than 20 journalism schools to work with analytics and verification of information, it has an official resource that helps to verify data and identify fake information. The European Association for the Training of Journalists sets itself the ambitious task of bringing the project to an institutional level in the EU and invites Ukrainian universities to join this work.

After the presentation, during the discussion, the participants were interested in the tools, possibilities and features of checking information with European journalists. The discussion was moderated by Andrii Kulikov, head of the NGO “Hromadske Radio”, international media trainer, journalist, TV and radio host.

The master class is held within the framework of the “MediaHub” project. The project is supported by the Media Development Fund of the US Embassy in Ukraine. It united the EU project “Journalism Education for Democracy in Ukraine: Development of Standards, Integrity and Professionalism” Erasmus Plus and the MediaHub project, contributing to the increase of their effectiveness. The projects are being implemented by the Department of Social Communications of Mariupol State University, project manager – Professor Svitlana Bezchotnikova.
